Polished Concrete - Scientific And A Green Solution
Obtaining a polished concrete look does require the use of chemicals. You cant simply apply chemicals and have it magically be polished, so once the chemicals have been applied, there is still more work to do. The grinding process is a 4-step process of using increasingly finer grinding tools before the surface becomes polished concrete. The tools used, are a set of progressive grits of industrial diamonds in a bonded material such as metal/hybrid/resin often referred to as diamond polishing pads. When below the 400 grit level, concrete is not yet thought of as polished. Only when it reaches 400 grit, is it considered polished, and even then it is usually finished to the 800, 1500, or 3000 grit level. Multiple steps must be followed to reach the required level of polish. Additionally, dyes specifically intended for concrete can be applied during the grinding process to add a splash of color to the finished look. Special effects can be added to the polished surface by using options such as scoring, radial lines, grids, bands, borders, and other designs to create amazing effects.
